‘Tastebuds’ was co-written with Spotify championed producer and songwriter Edward Black a.k.a Edbl. Rye states that “I used a guitar loop that Ed sent me, and was initially just writing this to be a Christmas present for a loved one. But after gaining some traction on Tik Tok, I decided to release the song too”. The style fluctuates between Bedroom Pop and RnB, with a new added element of spoken word to Milligan’s music, perhaps influenced by Edbl’s previous releases. When asked about this, Milligan said, “I wasn’t going to do that bit myself, but after trying and failing to get a rapper featured, I had no choice but to write and record my own. I had to get it done before Christmas so no time to wait!”. This section makes the song feel more honest and authentic as a listener, as if eavesdropping onto pure, young love.
